JOB POSTING News Page Designer The Brunswick Beacon Shallotte, NC The Brunswick Beacon is seeking an experienced news page designer to join its award-winning news team. The Beacon is a 17,000-circulation weekly newspaper on the North Carolina coast between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, S.C. The area is relatively rural and features miles of beautiful beaches, countless golf courses and world-class saltwater fishing. Myrtle Beach and Wilmington—each about 30 miles from Shallotte—offer an array of cultural activities including museums, live entertainment and nightlife. We're looking for a dynamic page designer who pays a lot of attention to details while performing as part of a team under strict press deadlines. The most successful candidate will be experienced in Adobe InDesign or a similar desktop page design program as well as Adobe Photoshop. Experience is needed with digital cameras, image scanners and other related-computer equipment. Experience in creating graphics, charts and graphs is essential. This position also includes some news writing responsibilities, including covering a crime beat. Must be willing to relocate immediately. Qualifications •Journalism or graphic design degree or minimum of one year of experience working for a weekly, multi-weekly or daily newspaper or similar graphic design career experience. •Must be proficient in using InDesign and Photoshop and other computer programs essential to the production of a weekly newspaper. Knowledge of Illustrator a plus. •Be able to work 45-hour weeks, including some nights and weekends. Tuesday nights mandatory. •Must have a high energy level and be self-motivated; attention to detail a must. •Knowledge of AP Style, news or feature writing, copy-editing and photography a plus. •Must be well-organized and able to work under constant pressure of deadlines. •Be willing to work with others to develop high-quality, engaging news pages and special sections.
