The Casey County News, a postal delivery weekly community newspaper located 
in Liberty, Ky., with a net paid circulation of approximately 5,400, is seeking 
qualified candidates for the position of full-time staff writer. The staff writer will 
work on a two-person reporting team, reporting and writing assignments, covering 
all aspects of the editorial department, including learning how to paginate pages. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience in 
the journalism profession
* Strong vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills, and a knowledge of writing
* Knowledge of digital photography and downloading photos 
* Ability to use Photoshop, Microsoft Word and InDesign helpful
* Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work 
effectively in a team environment
* Must be dependable, self-motivated, able to work under pressure, and possess 
good communication and grammatical skills
* Proven team-oriented behavior with the desire and ability to assist other 
teammates and work processes where necessary to accomplish the goals of the 
newspaper

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Cover government meetings, possibly including, but not limited to, school 
board, fiscal court, city council, hospital board, and others
* Other assignments will include breaking news, feature stories, general news, 
covering trials, gathering police news items and public records, such as 
lawsuits, etc.
* Write sports news and take photos at sporting events
* Write a weekly column and assist with editorials
* Cover various photography assignments
* Paginate pages
* Assist/share in various office duties as directed

SCHEDULE:
* Position is full-time, based on 45 hours per week, allowing for some overtime 
to attend night and/or weekend assignments. General hours are from 8:30 a.m. 
to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with a half-hour lunch.
