EditorStandardCommunicationsRevised112911.txt~Editor~Standard Communications in Bardstown, Ky., has an immediate opening for a unique Editor position that will be responsible for directing day-to-day news and sports coverage of a newspaper, online products and cable nightly news show. Standard Communications' products include The Kentucky Standard (newspaper), PLG-TV 13 (local cable origination channel), www.kystandard.com and www.plgtv.com. The Kentucky Standard publishes Sunday, Wednesday and Friday with over 9,000 circulation while PLG-TV 13 serves over 9,700 cable subscribers. We are located in Bardstown/Nelson County, Ky., the heart of the Bluegrass State just 35 minutes south of Louisville and 60 miles west of Lexington. Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field. A minimum of four years of newspaper experience is necessary, and multi-media experience is a plus. Candidates should have a proven supervisory record with strong coaching abilities. They should also have strong skills in writing, video, researching, interviewing, editing and photography along with good news judgment and a sense of timely reporting. Proficiency in AP style and electronic page design witih Quark or InDesign is expected. This person will be responsible for coordinating news and sports coverage between all the products (newspaper, cable and online) to better utilize resources and gain competitive edge. They will develop and execute plans for increased editorial coverage, special sections, special programming and online content. This person will coach, edit and critique reporters in their writing, news gathering, photography, shooting video, pagination and online postings. The editor will be expected to represent the newspaper in the community and listen and respond to readers' and viewers' expectations and needs. This person should have good organizational and time management skills of self and others.
