Thousands of people are rapidly discovering that
Anderson County is the place to get away from it all -- if you don’t
want to get too far away.
A relaxed rural lifestyle and convenient urban access have combined
to make Anderson one of the fastest-growing counties in Kentucky.
The number of households in the county increased to 7,679 from 1990
to 2002. In 2002, the county’s total population was estimated
at 19,900.
The county seat, Lawrenceburg, is located 23 miles west of Lexington,
Ky.; 56 miles east of Louisville, Ky.; and 105 miles south of Cincinnati.

Anderson County's history is intertwined with
that of Kentucky's bourbon industry. Before prohibition, there were
12 operating distilleries in the county. Now two of the industry's
giants remain - Wild Turkey (pictured above) and Four Roses.
The distinctive building that houses the Anderson
County Clerk's Office and the local circuit and district courts
is actually the county's third courthouse. Built in late 1915, the
structure replaced the second courthouse, which burned earlier in
the year. The first courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1859.
Kavanaugh House Bed and Breakfast is located
in the beautiful former home of Kavanaugh Academy. Under the leadership
of Rhoda Kavanaugh, it served as the county high school for many
years and as a prep school for boys planning to attend the U.S.
Naval Academy.
