Campbellsville/Taylor County, the Heart of Kentucky.
Located in the heart of Kentucky, Campbellsville
and Taylor County offers much to do and see. Whether you enjoy fishing,
water sports, camping, relaxing, shopping or exploring Civil War
battle sites and other historic places, there's something for nearly
everyone.
The county is within a short drive of many other
tourist attractions that lure visitors from all over the U.S. and
the world.
It's uncanny, but Campbellsville is almost equal distance from Louisville,
Lexington, Bowling Green and Somerset - about 85 miles.
Taylor County dates to March 1, 1848 and is named
after Zachary Taylor. It covers 284 square miles and has a population
of 20,060. Not quite half of the county's residents live in the
county seat of Campbellsville.
Agriculture remains an important part of the community
with tobacco, corn, soybeans, cattle and hogs among the principal
products. Workers here build air compressors, air filters, church
steeples, wood products and a variety of other light industry.
We are the home of Campbellsville University -
a Southern Baptist-affiliated institution of higher learning with
1,700 students.
Recreation is also important. Green River Lake
offers some of the finest fishing and boating in the state and attracts
hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The lake has hosted
national muskie and statewide bass tournaments.
For the past 25 years the community has hosted
a celebration of our nation's independence on the Fourth of July.
Thousands of people cram Main Street for a parade and day-long activities.
Come visit. You'll be glad you did.
