In the heart of Kentucky's "golden triangle,"
Owen County seeks to preserve its rich past while building for the
future.
Owen County traces its history back to a period of wandering mastodons
searching for salt licks, through thousands of years of habitation
by ancient peoples, and establishment as a county in 1819 named
for a Revolutionary War general.
The rural heritage of Owen County is strong, with prime farmland
for crops and cattle, horse farms and unspoiled natural areas. We
are home to a tradition of crafts, local artists, antiques and heirlooms.
Our outdoor and sporting opportunities are unmatched, with fishing,
hunting, hiking and other recreation activities available.
The community boasts a strong arts and crafts community, Elk Creek
Hunt Club and Sporting Clays Resort, Three Forks Ostrich Ranch,
Hazelfield Organic Farm and Flowers, Liberty Hall Miniature Horse
Farm, Maple Heights Poinsettia Farm, Pennington Pines Christmas
Tree Farm, the Robinson Family Home 'N the Hills and Sweet Owen
Farms Hydroponic Tomatoes, along with many
others.
Annual organized events include the Owen County Fair and Horse Show,
the Route 127 Yard Sale, Sweet Owen Days, the Chamber of Commerce
Sporting Clays Shoot, the Monterey Fair and the Christmas parade.
The county also has an extensive genealogy resource collection in
the library and approximately 60 local cemeteries. We are also within
30 minutes of the historic state capital of Frankfort and within
an hour of many exciting cultural events, including the Kentucky
Speedway, Turfway, Keeneland, Belterra Resort & Casino and Argosy
Casino.

Owen County's courthouse stands in the middle
of Owenton's town
square. Recently restored and renovated, it endures as a source
of pride for the entire county.
Elk Creek Hunt Club, a world class clay pigeon
and archery facility nestled in the woods of Owen County, hosts
the annual Boomer Esiason Cystic Fibrosis Shoot. The Esiason shoot
has become one of the nation's top cystic fibrosis fund raisers.

Every September, Owen Countians come together
for Sweet Owen Days. The festival is packed with activities ranging
from live music to and arts and crafts show to activities for children.
